Both stories are partly true, as the sad, romantic lyrics of the jailed warriors were set to older Vietnamese folk tuned, thus evolving into Quan Họ songs.
The male singers, known as Liền Anh, arrive in a neighboring village, where they are met by a group of female singers, or Liền Chị. The men sing a greeting, which is answered by the woman, who welcome them and present them with trays of betel nuts. The betel nuts have been prepared by the women themselves, who sing a song about "poor family, simple betel, but warm sentiments". The men and women sit facing each other on grass mats, exchanging love songs late into the night.
The most Quan Họ competition takes place during thi Lim Festival, held each lunar January in Bắc Ninh Province. Tens of thousands of visitors come here to enjoy the dialogues between the country's most skilled Quan Họ singers, who serenade each other from boats, on a lake beneath Phật Tích Mountain, or from the verandah of the village's communal shrine house. It is not only young couples who participate in Quan Họ contests. Peasants, district officials, young and old - all may take part in this thousand-year old tradition.
The Lim Festival is also celebrated with traditional temple games. In one game, teenage girls must mind a strangers baby, chew pieces of sugar cane in order to create fuel with which to start and maintain a fire, cook rice, and prevent a frog from jumping out of a circle marked on the ground. If the baby cries, the fire goes out or the frog escapes, the girl is disqualified.

Quan họ là loại dân ca đặc sắc của vùng Kinh Bắc xưa và nay là tỉnh Bắc Ninh. Lim là tên Nôm của xã Lũng Giang, huyện Tiên Sơn, tỉnh Bắc Ninh, cách Hà Nội 18 km. Hội mở trên đồi Lim, có chùa Lim nơi thờ ông Hiếu Trung Hầu, người sáng lập tục hát quan họ.
Hội Lim mở vào ngày 13 tháng Giêng âm lịch hàng năm. Khách kéo về dự hội Lim rất đông để được xem hát quan họ giữa các "liền anh" "liền chị", hát sau chùa, hát trên đồi, hát đối đáp từng cặp đôi, hát trên thuyền... với đủ các làn điệu quan họ khác nhau. Ngoài ra, trảy hội Lim còn được xem các cuộc thi dệt của các cô gái Nội Duệ, vừa dệt thi vừa hát quan họ. Cũng như các Hội khác, hội Lim cũng có đủ các phần từ lễ rước đến tế lễ cùng nhiều trò vui khác.
Hội Lim là một sinh hoạt văn hoá - nghệ thuật đặc sắc của nền văn hoá truyền thống lâu đời ở xứ Bắc và dân ca Quan họ trở thành tài sản văn hoá chung của dân tộc, tiêu biểu cho loại hình dân ca trữ tình Bắc Bộ.

Les festivités rendent hommage à Hieu Trung, l'homme qui a fondé le village de Quan Ho. Cette fête fait partie de la culture traditionnelle de la région du delta de la rivière Rouge.
Le Quan Ho est une balade folklorique qui est originaire de Kinh Bac, aujourd'hui la province de Bac Ninh. Lim est le nom donné à Lung Giang, un village de la province de Bac Ninh situé à 18 km de Hanoi.
La cérémonie d'ouverture a lieu sur la colline Lim où se situe la pagode du même nom. Les visiteurs viennent y entendre un couple de paysans chanter derrière la pagode. Les visiteurs peuvent aussi assister à des compétitions de tissage pendant lesquelles les candidates chantent le Quan Ho. Finalement, les participants peuvent assister à un défilé et participer à des jeux ainsi qu'à un hommage réligieux.
